Median Age — methodology
Category: Demographics · Unit: years · Published quarterly
What this metric measures
The age at which half the resident population is older and half is younger, derived each quarter from estimated resident population by single year of age.
Why it matters: An ageing population changes the demand for health and aged care, the size of the workforce, and the tax base that funds both.
