10-Year Government Bond Yield — methodology
Category: Economy & Jobs · Unit: % per annum · Published monthly
What this metric measures
The market yield on Australian Government 10-year bonds — the benchmark rate at which the Commonwealth borrows long-term and the market's read on long-run interest rates.
Why it matters: The 10-year yield sets the cost of long-term government borrowing and anchors fixed mortgage and business lending rates. Rising yields flow through to household repayments.
